What is Fairy Bread?

Fairy bread is a tried and true Australian treat, often enjoyed for breakfast or an after-school snack. It's essentially buttered bread with sprinkles or bread with syrup and sprinkles!

It requires very few ingredients and is very easy to make!

It really checks all the boxes for a satisfying sweet treat. Traditionally, this recipe is made with white sandwich bread, butter, and nonpareils.

It's unclear why it's called fairy bread, but it could be simply because it's a fun children's snack!

It's so popular in Australia & New Zealand that they have a National Fairy Bread Day in November!

Bread with Sprinkles FAQs

Can You Make Fairy Bread in Advance?

As long as the fairy bread is covered and kept safe, you can make it ahead by as much as 4 hours! I won’t lie to you though, it tastes much better made on the spot as the bread doesn’t become too soggy and mushy.

Why is fairy bread only in Australia?

Fairy Bread originated in Australia and is commonly served there.

What does fairy bread taste like?

Fairy Bread is very sweet. It's sugary and a delicious treat.

Can Fairy Toast be stored?

Storing: I don’t suggest saving this fairy bread recipe for any longer than a day. The sprinkles get a little soggy and the bread gets stale. However, it can be stored in the fridge in a baggie. Do not freeze.
Reheating: I would not suggest reheating this treat, since it doesn't start out heated in the first place. If heated, it turns soggy and doesn’t taste as great.
