HOW WE TEST
For this test, 35 golfers tested 38 different models over more than 400 individual sessions. Data was collected using Foresight GCQuad Launch monitors. To minimize variables, all testers hitTitleist Pro V1 golf balls. Outliers were removed and data was aggregated before scores were calculated.
Looking for the best driver for a slice?
The slice is the bane of mid- to high-handicap golfers. Whether caused by face angle, swing path, strike location or some combination thereof, watching the ball sail wildly off the intended targeted line is one of the more frustrating golf experiences.
While no piece of equipment can completely eliminate the slice, modern drivers are designed explicitly with intelligent features to help tame that shot and keep it in play more often. Let’s look at some of the best options available.
Data was collected from the2022 Most Wanted Driver test. We then analyzed the data to find the best drivers for a slice. We spent nearly three months collecting data on more than 18,000 golf shots to help you find the best driver for your game.

1. PING G425 SFT
Too many golfers are familiar with a slice. It is a distance killer. However, PING continues to defy the odds. PING G425 SFT was once again the most left-sided bias club in our test. If you are looking for a product to potentially limit your slice, the SFT is the way to go. SFT stands for “Straight Flight Technology” and the head has some sneaky draw-bias engineered into it without being obvious. This includes a fixed 23-gram tungsten weight that shifts the center of gravity closer to the heel. The Ping G425 SFT is the best driver for a slice.
2. COBRA AIR-X
Made for the “slower swinging” golfer, the COBRA AIR-X provides a lightweight construction that benefits those looking for more draw-biased performance. Throughout Most Wanted testing this year, COBRA offered forgiveness for those who needed it. The most significant contribution comes from a new thin-ply carbon crown construction (eight grams lighter than the F-MAX). With its increased offset and ULTRALITE shaft, the AIR-X is something to consider when attempting to mitigate your slice.
3. TITLEIST TSi1
Fighting a slice is great but, if overcorrected, it could result in a hook. Year over year, the Titleist TSi 1 has proven to be one of the best options for golfers who find the right side of the fairway more than they’d like. With eight grams taken out of the head, MOI (moment of inertia) for the TSi is far from maxed out but, according to Titleist, it’s on par for those in need of correction. Together with design and performance, you have a great-looking club and one of the best drivers for a slice.
4. CLEVELAND LAUNCHER XL LITE
Shaving roughly 12 grams off the standard XL, the Cleveland Launcher XL Lite ranks in the top 5 for slice correction. Additionally, there is a custom option featuring a one-inch shorter shaft and no counterbalancing which can offer more control. This is a game-improvement driver designed to help slower to mid swing speed players keep the ball in play and hit it a little further—hopefully in the fairway.
5. TOUR EDGE EXOTICS E722
While you can definitely slice the ball regardless of how fast you swing, the mish*t tends to be more common with moderate swing speeds. If you’re looking for a small dose of correction off the tee, the Tour Edge Exotics E722 provides forgiveness and draw-biased performance, ranking it No. 5 for Best Drivers for a Slice. I’m assuming that two of the big names Taylor made and Callaway’s products didn’t make the list. Surprising since a couple of their models are supposed to be draw biased. Was the Sim 2 Max D in the test by any chance?

It is not that I doubt your testing. I am confident you have done your homework. Still, fitting a driver is an individual thing. I usually fade the ball, and of course will slice when things go off the rails. So I am like most golfers. But I have tested both the Ping and Titlist drivers and hated both of them. I ended up with a Rogue and have been pretty happy with it.
Good guidelines for the slicer in the market for a driver, especially if they would normally reach for brand not on this list. At least try them. You might find you like one of these better. If not, at least you tried them.

I’m a long suffering fade/slicer. I’ve recently changed from an M6 to the TSI1 and absolutely love it. Can even work a controlled draw now.

I have a Ben Hogan GS53 Max driver and have struggled with a slice. I’m really good at blaming the driver, but that is silly. It wasn’t the club, it was me. I have corrected a few things and hardly ever slice out of bounds.
For anyone with a big slice, it’s very important for you to change whatever you are doing physically to create the slice..
I would think these driver’s would also help, but you need to focus on you first.

EXACTLY! It is not the club, it is the person holding and swing the club that is causing the ball to slice. I was once a slicer, then a fader, then straight, then draw. My current shot is mostly straight or slight draw, but my big miss is way right, three streets over slice, or duck hook. It’s not the club that is doing that, it is me. As soon as I get my swing back on track, it’s back to straight and draw.

Ping really tries to make the game fun for everyone, as I have a Ping g410 SFT driver, and it does help to keep you in the fairway. It came with a 12 gram weight, but I upgraded to a 20, and it really helps a lot, if you are prone to slice. Lessons are a good thing(Golftec), as I found out I was doing something that really made me erratic off the tee. With that corrected, having this driver gives me confidence from the first tee on. With that said, if you are chronic slicer, try using a softer ball, along with one of the above said drivers, to keep the spin down. 3 piece balls are nice around the green, but the spin built into them can rear it ugly head off the tee. Low compression balls do not spin so much off the tee, and not so much on approach shots either. But, you will find the fairway more often. Just a little trade off, but the game will be more enjoyable, as you will not be hitting your second from the tree line or rough. I love my Ping g410 SFT driver, and only had it a couple of seasons, so buying the g425 is not on my radar at this time. But if you are on the fence about a driver to help with your slice, you can’t miss with the g425.

Got back into golf after 8 years off. Now into my third year back I scrapped my entire bag and went full Air X. Love the offset, the ease of swing and the results are fantastic. Done chasing distance and more satisfied with fairways hit.

You guys should test the callaway big bertha b21 driver against these. It’s the only low spin draw bis driver I’ve ever experienced.

I owned and enjoyed the Cobra KING SPEEDZONE XTREME Driver. But my distances weren’t that great and I tended to slice. I decided to get lessons which is the main fix for slicing but also traded in the Cobra for the Ping G425 SFT. I really love this driver. The lessons helped the most but this driver really helps when I occasionally revert back to old habits. I’m slicing WAY less and hitting the ball further then ever. Loved the Ping driver so much I went and got the 5 wood and 4 hybrid too. All there clubs work really well for me and I am officially a Ping fanboy.

In the TEE 722 section, it says “While you can definitely slice the ball regardless of how fast you swing, the mish*t tends to be more common with moderate swing speeds”. .Does this mean that slowing down my swing to try and keep it in play can be working against me? If so, what’s the physics behind this??

In my experience slowing down your swing leads to more manipulation of the club which doesn’t allow the club to release naturally because you’re interfering. I try to let the weight of the club release my hands. When I try to actively release it it becomes a game of timing.

I find the swing speed thing interesting myself, when I started playing 20 plus rounds a year a few years back, I hadn’t had a club in my bag newer than a decade. Over half of the people I played with that were longer off the tee should not have been. Ego had me shopping for a new driver but Covid hit and I couldn’t find a club or get fit. I was boarder line on the shaft regular/stiff swing speed debate so I bought a tour edge excotics exs based off their “shaft for every swing idea” plus the price was right and the endless adjustments it offered I figured I’d get it right. My swing speed is consistent throughout my bag and every driver I have had and tried showing off and hitting bombs, usually ended bad and with a slice. My new driver is random on normal swings and I can’t figure it out but the harder I hit it the straighter it goes which has never been my case. The best and worst thing to happen to my golf game was pga opening a store a mile from my house. This is a part of golf these days. Ha!
